The Toronto-based Hudson’s Bay is a historic Canadian company that has its roots in the trade of fur. Located in Hudson’s Bay in 1670, it may rightly name one of the oldest companies in North America. Meanwhile, it is also one of the fastest growing companies in the region and is the oldest incorporated merchandising company in the English-speaking world.
In 1960, HBC took over the first warehouse chain, located in Montreal, Henry Morgan & Company. From then on, the expansion of the company increased as a retail group.
Europe is in turn! Last year, HBC began its entry into Europe. In June 2015, the group bought the German warehouse chain Galeria Kaufhof for 2.82 billion euros from the Metro Group. HBC also became the owner of the Belgan Inno branches and sixteen shops of Sportarena. As part of this acquisition, HBC intends to introduce Saks Fifth Avenue and Saks Off 5th formulas in Germany and Belgium.
Early this year, HBC took over the e-tailer Gilt with plans to integrate it into Saks Off 5th.
the company hoped to open some 40 Off 5th stores in Europe.
